Silk Flowers?

Is there such a thing is a good name brand silk flower?

Im considering making my own bouquets and possibly using fake instead of real flowers, because some fake arrangements i have seen photograph really well, and almost look real. And the main thing im concerned with is how the fake flowers will photograph?

Silk Flowers?
I%26#039;m getting fake ones. I think it%26#039;s ridiculous to spend so much money on something that is

1) Going to die soon

2) Doesn%26#039;t hold any real significant value to me

I%26#039;m getting mine at Michaels. You should also check out JoAnns. Just shop around and pick up the ones you like best.

A little hint, to kill that %26quot;fake%26quot; look, spray them with hairspray. It tones down the %26quot;silky%26quot; look.

Congrats!
Reply:Why not photograph real flowers instead of ones that %26quot;look almost real%26quot;? A case can be made for people with allergies, or people who want to save/display their bouquets after the wedding. But if you are concerned about how they look and how they photograph, nothing will be better than the real thing.
Reply:I made my own bouquets (for me %26amp; MOH) - I found a %26quot;holder%26quot; from JoAnn Fabrics that looks like real flower stems and I bought the flowers from - go figure - Wal Mart. They look great %26amp; I%26#039;ve gotten quite a few compliments on them.

That said, we%26#039;ll be getting the corsages %26amp; boutonnieres from one of the local grocery store florists. I think the key thing to DIY is to try it out early, so that if you don%26#039;t like the results, you can find the money %26amp; a vendor to do it another way.
Reply:I used silk flowers for my wedding and I am so happy I did. Not only did I save a ton of money by not using fresh flowers, but now I can keep my wedding bouquet for the rest of my life. My wedding pictures turned out fine with them. One of my sisters (who know I used silk) asked me later if I changed my mind and used fresh!!
Reply:I had silk flowers in the center pieces at my wedding. they looked great, and you can%26#039;t tell that they are not real in the photos. I think I bought them at Joann Fabrics. One of your local florists might have them too. Good luck. I hope you wedding turns out beautiful!!
Reply:I think real ones look best. I got mine wholesale and had my aunt (who used to be a florist) help put together everything. One thing, I had a big wedding - I invited about 450 people. So, we had lots of flowers. It was stressful putting them all together - there were about 8 of use that helped arrange them (you have to de-thorn them, de-leaf them, cut them, put them in water, etc.) We also were lucky enough to have access to a big refrigerator at a school cafeteria to keep them from wilting. But, we got LOTS of flowers at a really good price. For what we did, if we had hired a florist to do the same, we would have paid thousands of dollars. We also picked chrysanthemums from the yard and put those in little bowls at the reception. And, my aunt from Washington brought calla lillies. For the boutinneres and corsages, we picked leaves and other plants from outside and added these to them. If you have a smaller wedding, it may not be hard to do this. I got married in Nebraska, and they shipped the flowers from California.

What flowers should I get for the cast of girls in the musical production that I'm in?

I am the lead in my community theater%26#039;s production of %26quot;Oklahoma!%26quot; and I would like to get all of the girls in the cast a flower. I need flowers for 13 chorus girls and then I%26#039;d like to get something a little nicer like a small boquet for 4 of the girls with bigger parts. Single red roses are rather expensive..5 dollars from what I%26#039;ve found. I%26#039;m having trouble shopping for single flowers online and finding out my options and the pricing. I%26#039;d like to get them something special and unique, but I am on a bit of a budget and there are a lot of girls. Also ideas for the boquets that wouldn%26#039;t be too pricey. Should I get something for the director, costume ladies, and musical director as well? I was thinking maybe just cards for them, and we do give a group gift. Any ideas are appreciated.

What flowers should I get for the cast of girls in the musical production that I%26#039;m in?
From what I%26#039;ve heard the tradition is to give red roses after the first performance. A single rose is sufficient for the chorus girls, a nicer bouquet for the other cast members consisting of a rose and another less expensive flower. You can buy fresh flowers in grocery stores and design your own bouquets, for the single roses, I%26#039;d suggest you get a dozen roses and separate them. The only place I%26#039;ve ever heard of anyone charging $5.00 is in restaurants when there is a flower girl/seller walking around and that is highway robbery. Please just go to Albertson%26#039;s and talk to the clerk at the flower section, they also sell balloon bouquets.
Reply:Well, carnations are good, but try shopping around at local flower shops. A single flower is good for the choral members, and if you think you could do it, get a couple other types of flowers also, and either a cheap vase or ribbon, string, and tissue paper, to make your own boquet.

To make your own boquet, hold the flowers, and arrange them carefully in your hand. Then get someone to tie the string carefully around the middles of the flower stems, while they are all grouped together. Now take the tissue paper, and gather it around the flowers, (with the bottom of the paper extending just slightly past the string) , so that it looks kind of like it does on the store bought boquets, and finish of by having someone tie the ribbon fairly tightly around the tissue paper to hold it. Sit the flowers in water, and break a leg!

Do it yourself wedding flowers!?

Hi All,

I am getting married in June of %26#039;08. I pretty much do not like my florist and have tried to work with him several times. Soooo, I%26#039;ve decided to order the flowers myself and do everything myself besides the centerpieces. I have PLENTY of help lined up. My bouquet with have two different color roses in it and the bridesmaids will as well just smaller (8 roses total for bm%26#039;s). The flowers outside will be 4 vases with about 20-30 roses and greenery in them and three roses on the end chair in each row with a pink bow. I am just curious if anyone has done this before? ANY advice would be awesome. If so do you have any helpful hints? Also, how early before the wedding were your flowers delivered? Any advice on storing them etc. ?? Thanks for your help :)

P.S. I have already purchased the flowers through a wholesaler so there is no turning back! They are all roses by the way so atleast I don%26#039;t have alot of different flowers to work with.

Do it yourself wedding flowers!?
I did my own flowers and boutonnieres for my wedding in September. We ordered through a wholesaler (www.theflowerexchange.com) and they turned out better than I could have ever imagined. It was just my mom and I who did them. This link (http://www.theknot.com/co_profileview.ht... really helped with tips.

Good luck! I%26#039;m sure they%26#039;ll turn out beautifully.
Reply:Store them in a refrigerator. Flowers need to be cold to keep fresh once cut. If you treat them gingerly they should be fine. Florist wire the heads to the stems so that if it breaks the head stays with the stem and doesn%26#039;t fall off. You have taken on quite a bit using fresh flowers. I hope your help comes through. The wholesaler should be able to tell you the very latest you can have them shipped so they will be fresh and you won%26#039;t have to store them long.

My husband and I are renewing our vows in our Church (we had a civil ceremony before). I am doing silks and have them all ready made, centerpieces etc. But that is the beauty of silk you can make them well in advance and storage isn%26#039;t a problem. They are less expensive as well. Below is my website.
Reply:First, realize that what your taking on is going to be challenging, however, it is not impossible. If you have decided to take this on, you must have a knack for doing crafts and things, I know you can do it. It is not that difficult.

Basically, what I would DEFINITELY DO...is go to a florist and purchase enough of these flowers to do two bouquets well ahead of the date of your wedding... and do a couple of %26#039;practice%26#039; bouquets.

This will do two things. First, it will give you some idea of the time and level of difficulty your going to face when you start to assemble the bouquets so you can multiply that by the amount of bouquets you have planned for the day of the wedding. Second, it will allow you to modify them, either to make them more elaborate or more simplified to suite your tastes. The information that the prep will give you will prove to be invaluable when you start counting down to the last days before your wedding.

Now, as far as the flower delivery time goes, the closer you can make it to the day of the wedding the better. With roses, you can keep them refrigerated and get them in bud form about three days before the wedding, which should allow plenty of time for assembly.

Make sure you have plenty of floral tape, vases for the bouquets, and all the stuff to actually %26#039;assemble%26#039; them. Don%26#039;t forget the flowers for the mother of the bride and the mother of the groom to wear. Don%26#039;t forget the booteniers for the guys as well. These things are expected. Also, some opt for flowers to put at the end of the isle on the church pews, (if you are in fact getting married in a church).

To assemble your flowers into a bouquet, you can find supplies at Wal-Mart, at a craft store, or at a florist. I suggest that you go onto Craigslist.com and put out the word that you want old wedding bouquets that you can tear apart and repurpose for your bouquets. Many times you can save TONS of money by doing this. You will need to get floral tape to bind all the stems together. They do not have to be perfect, just pretty. The way you are doing this will be a HUGE money saver. AND... it will have the added benefit of your KNOWING that your florist will not be late, and that the flowers will be JUST the way you want them to be. Have fun with it. It is afterall, YOUR day.

HERE IS A WEBSITE...that depicts 8 basic types of floral arrangements. It tells you what to use to achieve the looks you desire using foam or floral tape to bind the arrangement together. If you want more websites, just go to your toolbars search engine and type in the words %26#039;How to floral arrangements%26#039;.... tons of sites will come up. (It is how I found this one.)

Congratulations on getting married, I wish you much joy and happiness in the future.... and GOOD for YOU for taking matters into your own hands... Literally. I love that you have that %26#039;Can Do%26#039; attitude!!!
Reply:I haven%26#039;t done it yet, but I am doing it, so I can%26#039;t help you much there.

All I can say is practice, practice, practice. When roses are on sale, pick them up at the grocery store and make a bouquet. It%26#039;s not as easy as it looks, but it%26#039;s not terribly difficult. Practice wrapping the stems with ribbon (I assume that%26#039;s what you are doing)...this is not a trivial task.

Simplify your designs as much as possible. You don%26#039;t want a whole bunch of stress on your rehearsal day and wedding day!!!
Reply:Hi. I think I answered your other question, but you must have changed it with this one.

YES...I have done this...but not bouquets. Bouquets will take a lot of work. Look online...there are step by step directions. Practice with some roses beforehand.

If you are having a Saturday wedding, have your flowers delivered on Thursday. It%26#039;s a LOT of work. You will need to unpackage them....cut the stems...put them in buckets of water with rose food.

They will need to be in a COOL/COLD place. Our wedding was in the summer and I have central air...so it was no problem! You will get instructions that come with the flowers. You CANNOT put them in regular refrigerators. Only commercially grade refrigerators.

The flowers will not look that good at first...don%26#039;t freak out! You will need to do everything the DAY before...and then they may still not look that good. Keep them in water overnight...and then the morning of the wedding...you will need to have someone wrap the stems with floral tape and then silk ribbon or whatever you are using to %26quot;hold%26quot; the bouquets!

Good luck!
Reply:enroll in a floristry course at your local TAFE

It is cheap to do and will give you a better idea of what you need to do.

And remember simple is better. not only will it look more effective but it will be easier and less stressfull. I am doing my flowers, simple gerberas tied together with a ribbon. Sounds boring but it looks really effective.

Good potted flowers for spring?

Ok, I%26#039;m going to be perfectly honest - I%26#039;ve never planted a thing in my life. However, I%26#039;ve always had a secret desire to.

I live in an apartment, and there%26#039;s this empty flower pot on my patio just begging for something to be put in it. I figure I%26#039;ll start with that one, and if all goes well (I don%26#039;t kill the flowers), I%26#039;ll dabble a bit more.

Since I%26#039;ve never gardened, I guess I just need to know some basics. Mainly, what types of flowers (not plants, I%26#039;m really only into flowers) are good to be planted early spring. Also, any tips on what sort of soil to use would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Good potted flowers for spring?
There are lots of plants that you can grow in a pot. A pot of pansies would be nice for the rest of the winter months, if you can find any in your area this late in the season. You may have to wait until spring. An easy, no-fail plant that blooms all summer is petunias. There are what they call %26quot;Super-tunias%26quot; that get huge, up to 3 feet across and make wonderful haning baskets and potted plants. Geraniums are great also, easy to grow and bloom until frost. As soon as the plants come into the garden centers in the spring, go check out the new plants. Nursery and garden center employees love new gardeners and are more than willing to help you pick out something!
Reply:I love container growing and we have several.

For most flowers, you will need 4 to 6 hours of sun.

Flowers for Thanksgiving?

My family invited my boyfriend to our Thanksgiving dinner and he wants to bring my mom flowers as a thank you. We%26#039;re already bringing pies and rolls but he wants to give her flowers as well. What type of flowers would work for such an occasion? Thanks!

Flowers for Thanksgiving?
A fall bouquet is always a nice addition. They are aranged and ready to go at most flower shops, grocery stores and Trader Joes.

Have a happy Thanksgiving.
Reply:Depends how much you want to spend... any florist can arrange Thanksgiving flowers, but the cost can be steep. If you%26#039;re on a budget, try your supermarket. They usually have bunches of beautiful fall flowers for a reasonable price.

Kudos for snagging such a thoughtful boyfriend!
Reply:If he wants to bring flowers for your mom that%26#039;s find and gracious of him. Because the flowers are for HER roses, other than red, should be a good choice.
Reply:A bouquet in fall colors, red orange and yellow flowers. I%26#039;m sure any florist would have something seasonal.
Reply:A fall bouquet is a wonderful idea. Try mums, asters, bleeding heart, pansies, etc...
Reply:Don%26#039;t bring flowers bring a fruit basket.
Reply:Any ones which do not have thorns on them.

Flowers for wedding?

I have always wanted white gerberas with the black centre for my wedding flowers.

Unfortunately because I am wearing a white dress I have been advised by my photographer and by my florist that the flowers will not photograph well becasue it will be white on white.

What flowers did you have for your wedding?

Flowers for wedding?
I saw this on a web site you might like it.

http://www.sweetmeadowsflorist.com/produ...

I had white silk flowers surrounded by lots of greenery and a few bright pink silk flowers
Reply:Our colours were lilac, pink, yellow and light teal. I had a European handtied bouquet of just a variety of beautiful flowers in all those colours - a few roses, carnations, stargazer lily, alstromeria, other lilies, etc.
Reply:I plan to have my bouquet be peachpink roses (sentimental value: my now fiance bought me a bouquet of peachpink roses when we were just friends, and then he filled the engagement location with peachpink roses for the proposal), and then have my women carry either pink gerberas or pink hydrangea wrapped in ribbon.

(our clothing colors are ocean blue and platinum)
Reply:Most flowers for the bride is white so there is no big deal just have them put greens around the edges and add small flowers of the colors of your wedding. I did all white flowers with little red roses for color with greens as the border to show it was heart shaped and my flowers showed up great.
Reply:My daughter used hot pink gerbera daisies for her wedding bouquet and the photos were absolutly beautiful. The hot pink against her white gown made such a picture-perfect contrast.
Reply:Have what you want If I ever get married I%26#039;m having gerbera%26#039;s
Reply:White on white. My colors were white and gold. Just make sure that the bouquet has enough greenery in it, and you%26#039;ll have no problems!!
Reply:Calla Lillies and blue Gerber Daisies, They were beautiful!
Reply:Nonsense! Go with the white Gerber%26#039;s, add some orchids and some soft pink Calla Lilies, and some highlights with maybe like very pale pink, light green or ivory or combination colors of all these soft hues of roses for a soft hue and insert green Ivy for filler and add silver or gold or crystal sprays of beads at random and adorn it with a silver or gold ribbon at the base and around the stems for a beautiful bouquet! Remember this is %26quot;Your%26quot; special day! Your suppose to have the things that are part of %26quot;your%26quot; dream day! Professionals are suppose to make suggestions of what would look best and give you advice on how to incorporate the things you like best so that it coordinates and that it%26#039;s presented in an elegant and classic way and not just tell you to change your plans%26quot;! Go with your likes and find people who are willing to make that special day happen for you surrounded with the things and those you love! Congrats and Good Luck!
Reply:i carried 2 trumpet lillies that were silk flowers and i took fabric paint in burgandy and painted the edges.
Reply:I had white and red gerbera daisies, but my dress was ivory...there is no such thing as a pure white gerbera daisy. They will be off white or cream colored....

http://images1.comstock.com/Imagewarehou...

What%26#039;s your other color? You can do both colors, maybe just a couple of the accent with mostly white daisies, and then for the bridesmaids do all the accent color....

Do what makes you happy though, don%26#039;t listen to some stupid photographer or florist....it%26#039;s your wedding.
Reply:i am getting married in jan next year and i will behaving my b/maids ivory so there flower will be with soft pinks and my flowers will be white and my dress is white. i will be including greenery. change your florist or tell her how u want it. and make sure she does it
Reply:You can do a couple things there, either do what you want and find out if they can digitally enhance the flowers, or ask the florist to lightly tint the edges with pink or blue or something. They can either spray it with flower paint, or put them in water with some food coloring for a day or two to tint the petals.
Reply:That is so dumb, just have the florist (a new one!!!) be sure to surround the periphery of the bouquet with greenery and accent with black ribbon bows or some other black thing which you find attractive. Honestly, if your florist can%26#039;t figure out how to make these flowers work for you, you need one who is actually creative!!!
Reply:i think you should still pick the gerberas in a different color. i had pink roses with gardenias.
Reply:I had white tulips against my white dress.
Reply:find a new flower person and a new photographer, there not creative enough. there are ways to do it.

Flowers help?

I asked a question a few weeks ago about flowers, and someone answered me showing me they have glass hand blown roses with ribbons around it. It looked GORGEOUS! However the link to photobucket she sent me doesn%26#039;t work anymore and I can%26#039;t see who is was because I forgot to pick a best answer and it is in voting right now. Has anyone ever done this? or scene picks of it? The one she had was amazing and so elegant. Plus it would be perfect forever. Any ideas where to get this done or have pictures of it? PLEASE HELP! Or maybe some pics of your flowers so I can get some ideas. I have no clue yet what I want! my colors will either be oranges, pinks, red, and yellows, OR Jade and white bridesmaid dresses any ideas what colors would go well with that? Or last choice is silver with blue ribbons for girls dresses? I prefer to not have all white flowers... THANKS GUYS!

Reply:I dont know when your wedding is but lavender, pink, yellow, red, orange, brown are good color here is a pic of the flowers i had done for mine and then i let my bridesmaids go pick there own dresses just told them to pick one in my colors then the guys wore dark blue jeans and white shirts it was a outside wedding.
Reply:The choice of flowers depends on the time of year you are getting married.

Do you have a college near you? Find out if they have a horticulture course in floral arranging. It is a good source to get custom designed work at a reasonable price. If the school competes, the floral team is always looking for ways to raise money - and doing weddings is one way for them to raise money.
Reply:All right. If you want to go with orange, yellow, pink and red, you could go with gerbera daisies. They are fairly cheap and they come in all of thos colors. I think they would look nice with the jade and white dresses if you go that route. If you decide on the silver and blue, I think you could narrow the flowers to a pink color or a yellow color, both would look nice.

Sorry, I don%26#039;t know about the glass rose.

Wedding Flowers???????

I am getting married in September and was wandering what flowers i should go with, my colors are latte and chocolate with a pale pink accent and a touch of gold. I want real flowers, but am on a budget. Any recommendations? I don%26#039;t know flowers well so something with a link to view the flower would be great. Thanks!

Go through and pick out what you like and don%26#039;t like. I think I%26#039;d go with the pale pink for flowers and pick up the gold colors with other things like ribbons, maybe a gold colored berry or other accent in the bouquet.
Reply:Check out www.costco.com. You can purchase bulk flowers for do-it-yourself arrangement or they actually have quite a few pre-arranged collections at all different price ranges. Personally I%26#039;m a fan of Calla Lilies.
Reply:Alstroemerias would be a great flower for your wedding. They come in a ton of colors; they aren%26#039;t expensive; and they aren%26#039;t scented so they won%26#039;t interfere with your food. Click on the link below. Click on the colors on the sides for pictures of the flowers.
Reply:I think calla lilies are the ultimate wedding flower but may be out of your budget. I think any white flower would go with all colors and you can have hints of pink flowers too. daisy%26#039;s?
Reply:Are you working with a florist? If so, you might want to discuss with him/her what flowers will be in season (and thus a LOT less expensive). I will say, though, that there are a lot of pink flowers in the world, so there are usually a couple varieties in bloom at any time of year.

Dahlia%26#039;s might be quite striking, and come in a lovely pink

One that would be very unusual but really struck my eye on a google search, were these lovely pink cactus flowers:

As are these anemonies:

Reply:Pink gerbera daisies are absolutely beautiful and simple and inexpensive, I am using peach gerbera daisies for my bridesmaids and I will be carrying blush calla lilies. The total for my bouquet, four bridesmaids, my fiance and his four groomsman came to $200. Tell your florist that you are on a budget but of course you want the flowers to be beautiful and they will help you pick out flowers that will be perfect for you.
Reply:Pink and cream colored flowers with gorld accents to pick up the pink and gold in your colors.... You bouquet could be pink roses with cream colored babies breath surrounded in a ribbon of gold or a gold doily----the bridesmaids could carry smaller versions of the same OR, have each bridesmaid carry ONE single pink rose wrapped in a cholocate colored ribbon or a DIED CHOCOLATE ROSE wrapped in pink ribbon

Wedding Flowers?

I am getting married in April and am searching for my flowers. I have gone to Los Angeles (the flower district) and have found a place called %26quot;Daisy%26#039;s Garden%26quot; This place doesn%26#039;t have a website and they speak Spanish (some English, but not very well)....I went with my friend and the florist showed me beautiful flowers and arrangements for much less than what I would pay at a typical...non-wholesale florist....i was wondering if anyone has been to %26quot;Daisy%26#039;s Garden%26quot; before...or any florist in the LA flower district...and, if so, what was your experience with them? (please only tell me if you have used them for a large event...not just for a bouquet or something)

my second question is....do you think i should trust the great deal in LA...or pay more for peace of mind??? Thanks!

Wedding Flowers?
consider the hidden costs and stress of delivering and setting up the flowers on your big day

also the built in guarantee that goes with a reputable florist actually coming through with the exact flowers arranged the way you are wanting at a time when you won%26#039;t be having time to mess with it.

set your preferred budget for flowers total.

Rather than a wholesaler please check into a smaller florist they can give you the attention you need to have at this important event and they can help you not break the bank at the same time.
Reply:the best way to do this is to get 3 estimates. then go with the middle one...unless they are way different. in that case get 3 more.

i have a feeling the mexican woman is being fair with you though. find a fried that speaks spanish, take them, and go back for another visit.

hope this helps. :)

What flowers do best in a flower bed in FL?

I have tried several beautiful flowers in my flower beds in front of my house but they just don%26#039;t last in this Florida heat even though I water them well in the evenings. What flowers can I plant either annuals or perenials that will last in our heat?

What flowers do best in a flower bed in FL?
Your best bet would be to go to a nursery and ask them to show you their selection they wont carry anything that wont grow down here, We have a very sandy and rocky soil here in Florida and alot of stuff wont grow. I personally gave up on flowers and put in azalea bushes. But my mothers roses always did very well, maybe you could try those?
Reply:Try lavender it will also keep flies away.
Reply:Portulaca is a desert flower. Worth trying.

Marigolds are good and snapdragons if they

get a good start will send roots to China in a dry spell which should help.

Don%26#039;t water too much or too often. Tough love. If they suffer a bit from dryness they will drive roots deeper. If you water too shallow roots remain near the surface [bad]. Water less often and soak deeper/
Reply:I live in South Ga so I feel your pain. I have had a lot of success with zinnias (annual) Which are beautiful! Echinacia (cone flower), black eyed Susan and Day lillies are all very low maintenance, hardy and perennial!

I would recommend if you can though to water in the morning. Any water that doesn%26#039;t evaporate before the sun goes down gives way to mildew and other plant problems. But if you are unable all the flowers I mentioned are pretty tough and all gorgeous.

Ah and one more thing all the above like full sun. If you have partial shade I would suggest impatiens or Gerber Daisy%26#039;s.

Good luck!
Reply:The only annual that does well in full sun in our Florida heat and humidity are Periwinkles. They will not stand flooded soil, so make sure the flower beds are situated so that water does not puddle up during heavy rains.

Caladiums (planted from bulbs), do very well in partial to full shade. They go dormant in the winter, so that you can interplant other annuals during the winter.

For shady areas, impatiens add alot of color. Massed plantings of a single color show off the best. Good luck.
Reply:which planting zone in Florida??? are you close to the beach or live by a lake in Central Florida. If you want flowers year round you have to look for native plants that are salt water and drought tolerant. (we%26#039;ve been suffering of a severe drought for the past 2 yrs)

Another indications is to check around your area to find which kind do best... so it pays to visit a local nursery and ask questions. Right now the %26quot;Caladiums%26quot; will do very well for the summer but by fall you will have to plant either an annuals. Marigold and snapdragons are only good for the winter time as well as begonias and careful with the impatients they need too much water and don%26#039;t last long.

Bougainvillea dropping flowers, only had it for two days!!! HELP?

I just got 3 bougainvilleas from Walmart 2 days ago. I just looked at them and two of them have dropped about half their flowers. One is worse than the other.

Otherwise they look perfectly healthy.

Now, I may well have done this and I have an idea. I have them under shade in the carport and I watered them when I got them.

Will too much water plus shade make them drop their flowers that fast???? Its just the flowers now, not the leaves.

If that is the case I can rest easy because I can just put it out in the sun tomorrow and hope that stops the flower loss. I can let it dry out a bit (didnt mean to overwater it, oops. I didnt realize how sensitive to water they are).

Could this be something else? The stress from moving them in the car maybe???

If you have any ideas whatsoever on what could cause flower drop please let me know! Id be most greatful.

Bougainvillea dropping flowers, only had it for two days!!! HELP?
Well your first problenm is getting them at Wally world(oops Wall Mart) If they are alive it is a miricle.

They shoud be outside in a mostly shady area and kept well watered.

The plants have been stressed just being at that store. If you still have a healthy plant but no flowers, they will reapear soon. Do not put them in the direct sun between 10am and 4pm of they will fry. The plant just needs to stableize, and once that happens, you can use a very weak solution of fertilizer every 2 weeks to keep them blooming.
Reply:This plant doesn%26#039;t like to be overwatered. Don%26#039;t fertilize it either. The soil should always be on the dry side. Too dry is not good either.

I know your problem relates to water. Be easy on the water with this plant and you should be much better off.
Reply:That is why i won%26#039;t have one, nice to look at but wait till they grow!

FTD flowers terrible for 2/14/08 Valentine's day??

I ordered %26#039;gauaranteed delivered%26#039; flowers from FTD on 2/11/08 for a delivery on 2/14/08 (Valentine%26#039;s day). The flowers were not delivered. I called FEdEx they said a label was made but FTD never sent the flowers. I called FTD on 2/14 and 2/15 and customer service was un-available. However, when I called the extension to order flowers, a representative was miraculousley available. I e-mailed FTD and am still waiting for a responce, because I am demanding a full refund (and not a store credit). If, I do not receive it I will contact the Better Business Bureau as well as write blogs about my experience. I am furious, because my fiance was so upset (everyone in her work got flowers except her). Has anyone had a similar experience from FTD on 2/14/08? If so, I appreciate all replies, and suggest contacting the BBB

FTD flowers terrible for 2/14/08 Valentine%26#039;s day??
A couple ladies in our office got a dozen red roses, tie wrapped in a box with a vase delivered by FTD yesterday afternoon. Today they were SAD and LIMP when we cam in this morning ... by this afternoon several of the roses lost a good many petals. Very Pathetic!! Thank Goodness I stopped at a local flower shop on the way home and got my wife and daughter their goodies in person.
Reply:I had a problem with FTD a couple of years ago and went through a very similar thing. Their customer service is horrible and it took days and several phone calls for a resolution. Needless to say, I will never use them again. Have you seen Edible Arrangements? They have great stuff and they are reliable.

Reply:According to the BBB the majority of their complaints are with their delivery service. They also go by other names such as

(just incase you thought over ordering online again probably wont want to try their other companies if you are unsatisfied)

But they are however accreditted with the BBB as being satisfactory. Ive heard from other people its not the best place as far a reliability. . Other people have said 1-800-flowers is a better website to use.
Reply:Sorry, you let it ruin your 2 days. Poop happens. I understand your disappointment, but understand they didn%26#039;t do it intentionally, and they will make it right.
Reply:Well I don%26#039;t think Blogging will really help much, but I do understand your frustration. I think you are completely in line demanding a refund and not store credit... calling the BBB is ok too.. make sure you tell them that%26#039;s what you are going to do....

Companies tend to not like that...

Trimming the flower budget? Essential Flowers?

I figure the %26#039;essential%26#039; flowers are: bouquets %26amp; boutenierres for the bridal party %26amp; our parents. Anything I%26#039;m missing there?

In order to trim costs I am not having flower centerpieces at the reception - I am going with candles in a pretty bowl.

Is anyone going to notice if I don%26#039;t have flowers in the church as well? They%26#039;re outrageously expensive. Or is it going to look like I%26#039;m super-cheap?

I%26#039;m trying to trim my budget to the bones on %26quot;accessories%26quot; to the wedding and can%26#039;t envision a thousand dollar flower bill so I can put up flowers @ the church and reception hall.

In your experience, what are some very affordable real flowers that would be available in dark red and white that would make good bouquets and boutenierres?

Trimming the flower budget? Essential Flowers?
It sounds like you have it covered. The only bouquet you may be %26#039;missing%26#039; is a toss-bouquet. Some brides prefer to have a smaller replica of their bouquet to throw for the bouquet toss. This is completely optional.

You may want to consider ordering your flowers online in bulk. This could save you a fortune. But then you%26#039;ll have to arrange them yourself.
Reply:I am planning to order my flowers from an online wholesaler and spend between $200-300. I too will only have flowers for the bouquets and boutonnieres, which my sister and I will arrange ourselves.

I don%26#039;t think you%26#039;ll look cheap for not having flowers at the ceremony and reception. Candles give a very romantic feel. To dress up the ceremony you can also use candles. I%26#039;m having an outdoor ceremony and I%26#039;m going to use paper lanterns with a cherry blossom design to decorate at the ceremony in lieu of having flower arrangements. You can try to think of something like that for the reception is you feel like you need extra decorations.
Reply:Theknot.com has a really detailed flower guide that tells you what flowers are more/less expensive, and what colors they come in, what they smell like, what their significance is, and what season they are common to.

To keep them inexpensive, pick flowers that are common in your wedding season and part of the country. Also, bigger blooms mean you don%26#039;t need as many to fill out a bouquet. Set a rigorous budget before you go into your florist meeting, and they will be able to let you know what you can get for your money.

Doing them yourself is an option, but it will force you to be working on flowers the night before your wedding, and I personally wouldn%26#039;t want to be staying up the night before arranging all of that when I should be sleeping and resting before the Big Day.

I%26#039;ve heard that silk can look really believable, but the really high quality silk flowers can be quite expensive too-so you%26#039;d have to really do your homework to get a good deal on them.

Good luck-don%26#039;t worry too much about flowers. That%26#039;s not one of the details guests will remember when looking back on your wedding, so there%26#039;s no need to fret too much about it! Best wishes!
Reply:I would go with simple fresh flowers you could do yourself. Why not see what will be in season and contact a flower wholesaler to see if you can purchase. Perhaps tulips will be in season. You could make the arragements with very few, but striking flowers. Not sure how far ahead you are but I bet you could get in on a flower arranging class at local craft store like Michaels or AC Moore. Ask specific questions about what you want. You might be able to work with a floral shop to get the flowers in bulk. They would still make money because they wouldn%26#039;t be out the time to arrange them.
Reply:Gerbera Daisies are pretty inexpensive.

Afew simple roses would work too. Look on websites like

www.brides.com

www.theknot.com

www.weddingchannel.com

They have galleries of different flowers.
Reply:The only flowers we%26#039;re doing is a bouquet for me. My fiance said he doesn%26#039;t want to wear a flower, so that%26#039;s it. My bouquet is like $85.
Reply:When I got married in 06, the florist told me that the cheapest flowers are carnations followed by roses. I, like you, did the minimum for flowers, and still ended up spending around $800! When my BF got married in October, we made them all our selves. It was actually pretty easy, and I think that she only ended up spending about $200. Just search the web for how to%26#039;s. Good luck!
Reply:I don%26#039;t think it%26#039;s necessary to decorate your church with flowers. My sister is in the same boat and is nixing her %26quot;church%26quot; flowers, especially after my cousin got married and the flowers didn%26#039;t even show up in her wedding photos.
Reply:One suggestion? Put flowers to double use. Use flowers in the church that can be moved to the reception site . . . to be used as centerpieces. (I did this at my own wedding. Two flower arrangements used at the church altar were moved to the reception site . . . where they served as centerpieces on the tables.)

Suggestion two? Look for inexpensive silks. http://www.thebridesbouquet.com/

Suggestion number three? Use plants and greenery to decorate both the church and the reception site. Got a friend or a family member with a green thumb who has lots of plants? Ask to borrow her plants for the day. Use her plants to decorate, then return plants to her after the reception. Borrow some big ferns . . . they%26#039;ll look great at the front of the church.

Suggestion four? Check out this site:

http://www.save-on-crafts.com/gifandpac....

Do it yourself. Make your own bouquets, bouts, and corsages.

edit: For decorating the church, must the colors be red and white? Can you use autumn colors? For example, if using leaves to decorate at the reception . . . can you carry that over, using leaves and candles to decorate the church as well?

For decorating autumn weddings, I think using what is available works well. Baskets, leaves, pumpkins, squash, branches with autumn leaves, etc.

To save money, you can cut bridal party flowers to a minimum. Bouts can be a single carnation or a single rose. Each bridesmaid can carry a single flower decorated with greenery and ribbons. I%26#039;d vote for simplifying the bridesmaids%26#039; bouquets to a single flower . . . and using a bit of DIY creative effort to decorate the church.

Good luck to you.
Reply:i would ax the bridesmaids flowers in exchange for flowers to decorate the church and/or reception. let them carry a single stem or a nice purse.
Reply:I made my own flowers for my wedding (I used silk flowers) and put candles on the table... I have friends that used goldfish for centerpieces on the tables , and one friend that got married in October had jack-o-lanterns as her centerpieces. I didn%26#039;t have flowers at the church they were already there. Also try looking on craigslist for people%26#039;s extras from their wedding. I recycled a lot of my wedding stuff.. I have let 6 people since my wedding wear my petticoat from my dress.. that thing is expensive for something you only wear for a few hours. As far as affordable real flowers ... carnations are really cheap and come in the colors you are wanting..
Reply:I really don%26#039;t think flowers in the church are necessary. It%26#039;s not something people will remember. Also, all the bridesmaids bouquets can double as centerpieces for the reception, even if it%26#039;s just on the head table, and you have candles on the other tables. Even centerpieces aren%26#039;t going to stick in people%26#039;s memories too much. As a guest, if a couple spends a TON of money on flowers, and they%26#039;re everywhere, and they%26#039;re gorgeous, I might remember them just because they%26#039;re a huge part of the suroundings. Otherwise, I%26#039;ll probably notice what the bride is carrying when she walks down the aisle. That%26#039;s about it. I really don%26#039;t think they%26#039;re *that* important overall.
Reply:Hi. I love fresh flowers myself, but, yes....they can get expensive. I bought the flowers for my son%26#039;s wedding and at one point we were thinking of doing away with the church ones as well....but in the end we did get some for each side of the altar. However, it IS NOT necessary.

Two ideas: Do you have a Walmart or Costco near you? I purchase roses (all year) at Walmart all the time and they are only $10/dozen. OR....all the flowers don%26#039;t have to match. A bouquet of alstromeria (sp?) looks elegant and they are cheap. Get 2 identical vases from a dollar store or Walmart and you are done!

OR....simply do not have any. Really, no one cares! I know the guys don%26#039;t notice things like that. And, it depends on where you sit. I have been at weddings where I couldn%26#039;t tell you if they had floral bouquets or not because I was too far back!

Good luck!
Reply:We%26#039;re severley budgeting for our wedding. we%26#039;re only doing flowers for the bouquet, and lapels of best man, entourage and Father of the Bride. We%26#039;re getting flowers from a market local to us and arranging them ourselves, so at a snip of the price.
Reply:www.costco.com

Buy from bulk floral. You could make your own bouquets and boutenierres and still have some left over to put flowers on the table with your candles...and have flower petals for the flower girl. It is easy to make the bouquets. Just google it.
Reply:The cheapest flowers would be the ones that are in season the same time as your wedding. Roses, tulips, freesia and lilacs are usually pretty affordable and come in your colors. Another way to cut costs is to eliminate the boutonieers and just have the groomsmen wear colored pocket squares. That%26#039;s what I%26#039;m doing because I think it looks more modern anyway.
Reply:You won%26#039;t look %26quot;super cheap%26quot;. Many times candle centerpieces look more expensive and elegant than real flowers. As for the church, we didn%26#039;t decorate ours either and no one noticed. Churches are usually pretty enough that you don%26#039;t need to add anything else.
Reply:I too had the same problem, my budget didn%26#039;t allow a $3,000.00 flower bill. I cut the flowers back to just what you did... the bridal party and our parents. But the day before the wedding we saw a truck on the side of the road selling roses for $5.00 a dozen.

We stoped, talk to the guy for a while, told him of our wedding. He told us if we bought the 12 dozen roses he had, he%26#039;d sell them for $2.50 a dozen.... it saved us about $30.00.

We used them for our flower girl, and put pedals on the tables, they weren%26#039;t perfect like if we%26#039;d gone to a flower shop, but they were natural and didn%26#039;t cost an arm and a leg.

It%26#039;s a suggestion, and even if they don%26#039;t give you a discount, $60.00 for 12 dozen roses is a heck of a lot better than a $3,000 flower bill.

Good luck, and best wishes!
Reply:I came across this problem when I got married. The flowers I wanted were too expensive and I couldn%26#039;t afford them. So I went to hobby lobby and bought fake ones. Only my (brides) bouquet was real. They weren%26#039;t the silk one though, they were the rubber kind. They looked so good and everyone thought they were real. I made everything with them. Bridesmaids, boutonnieres, corsages, and even decorated around my wedding with them. All for about 100 dollars. If you can find some really nice fake ones, I would do that. They aren%26#039;t even hard to make, I did my own and I know nothing about flowers!

Can you grow flowers like the ones in a flower shop?

I want to grow the kind of flowers that you would buy at a flower shop--like roses, tulips, flowers that you would find at the supermarket or flower shop. Is it possible to grow flowers like this at home? And if so, are the seeds easy to get?

I was looking for rose seeds, and it seems like you can only grow roses from the plants?

What are some good seeds that are not exactly easy, but not extremely difficult to get if I look hard enough? As in, they are not grown only by flower growers.

Can you grow flowers like the ones in a flower shop?
It takes a lot of know how, time %26amp; experience to do that. My nephew was a market gardener %26amp; sold his flowers to the Brisbane markets (Australia). He said it was too time consuming %26amp; gave it up. What is he doing now? He%26#039;s a viticulturist(grape grower) in his sister%26#039;s vineyard!
Reply:yeah, they sell seeds lots of places- Home Depot, OSH, Lows...look around, you should find some easily.

you get roses from rose bushes-

flower shop and store flowers aren%26#039;t really %26quot;different%26quot; from home grown ones. they%26#039;re just critically selected and arranged by certain characteristics.

with the proper care %26amp; adequate requirements, you should be able to grow most of the plants you want. good luck!

Flowers are Red

by Harry Chapin

The little boy went first day of school

He got some crayons and started to draw

He put colors all over the paper

For colors was what he saw

And the teacher said.. What you doin%26#039; young man

I%26#039;m paintin%26#039; flowers he said

She said... It%26#039;s not the time for art young man

And anyway flowers are green and red

There%26#039;s a time for everything young man

And a way it should be done

You%26#039;ve got to show concern for everyone else

For you%26#039;re not the only one

And she said...

Flowers are red young man

Green leaves are green

There%26#039;s no need to see flowers any other way

Than they way they always have been seen

But the little boy said...

There are so many colors in the rainbow

So many colors in the morning sun

So many colors in the flower and I see every one

Well the teacher said.. You%26#039;re sassy

There%26#039;s ways that things should be

And you%26#039;ll paint flowers the way they are

So repeat after me.....

And she said...

Flowers are red young man

Green leaves are green

There%26#039;s no need to see flowers any other way

Than they way they always have been seen

But the little boy said...

There are so many colors in the rainbow

So many colors in the morning sun

So many colors in the flower and I see every one

The teacher put him in a corner

She said.. It%26#039;s for your own good..

And you won%26#039;t come out %26#039;til you get it right

And all responding like you should

Well finally he got lonely

Frightened thoughts filled his head

And he went up to the teacher

And this is what he said.. and he said

Flowers are red, green leaves are green

There%26#039;s no need to see flowers any other way

Than the way they always have been seen

Time went by like it always does

And they moved to another town

And the little boy went to another school

And this is what he found

The teacher there was smilin%26#039;

She said...Painting should be fun

And there are so many colors in a flower

So let%26#039;s use every one

But that little boy painted flowers

In neat rows of green and red

And when the teacher asked him why

This is what he said.. and he said

Flowers are red, green leaves are green

There%26#039;s no need to see flowers any other way

Than the way they always have been seen.

FLowers ARe REd. by Harry Chapin. How Does this Poem Make You Feel?
The poem describes the experience of so mnay children - not with their teachers (although it does happen) but with their parents. It%26#039;s not that their parents are stupid or unimaginative or intentionally cruel - but they miss the beauty and creativity that the child brings and the child comes to believe that it%26#039;s not OK to be fully themselves. So they create a %26#039;false self%26#039;, a child who will get it right and be who they have thought the adults wanted them to be. And it works.... and so they stick with it because it is seriously scarey to do it any other way - they fear they will be rejected and unloved, although all this is on an unconscious level. And then they arrive in my consulting room, or that of any other psychotherapist or counsellor, as adults, feeling that their relationships never work, that they are unfulfilled, that life has been a real disappointment. It takes a lot of courage for someone to begin to let themselves know about, let alone talk about, the inner child who saw all the colours...... but if everything conspires to make it possible, there is a beautiful healing and the child glows again in the adult.
Reply:it really is an amazing poem. it realy describes so much more than just flowers. it shows how not just teachers, but people want to mold others into what they believe is right. and how they force them to see things how they see it and it is not alwasy a better way. hmm. anothe example is how children have to take writing tests and they are graded. i think it is sometimes rediculous that writing is graded. it is purely an opinion.
Reply:First of all, Harry Chapin was one of the MOST amazing song-writers of the world. He was so concerned with the problems of the world and his music and songs portrayed this.

It was a shame that the world lost him so early in his life.

This song is about accepting differences in people.

This song, shows us that children are influenced by the important people in their lives and that this influence is great. This child was first taught to draw something a certain way and was punished for being different. When he finally conformed to the way %26quot;things should have been,%26quot; he was accepted and allowed to join in with the other children.

The feeling that he was different was carried through until he met another teacher who accepted his differences and allowed him to be himself.

Amazing Harry Chapin......Thank you

Flowers Exclusive to Ireland?

I didn%26#039;t get a lot of help with my last question (don%26#039;t bother looking it%26#039;s a boring read and fairly redundant, though I did get a few good answers, ther werent many) so now I am trying a different approch. I figure people in this section know more about flowers =]

I want to incorperate my heritage into a little %26#039;project%26#039; so to speak that I%26#039;m creating for myself, but there needs to be beautiful full flowers. Please don%26#039;t say the shamrock because I am really not interested in that for this project. it simply would not work well.

so what I would like from any of you are Flowers that grown in ireland. They don%26#039;t have to be exclusive, though that would be prefferable. Just beatiful, and prefferably with color. I don%26#039;t want people to see it and automatically say %26quot;oh I bet she%26#039;s irish%26quot; like they would if there were a Shamrock there, I want it to be something I can discuss, if you get it..

it can be more than one flower as well as long as they compliment eachother. Thanks so much!

Talk to her, right her a letter, sometimes the drive just isn%26#039;t there or maybe she%26#039;s depressed? After awhile things start to get kind boring, so trying something new might help. Is she on any meds. that can sometimes affect drive. Most important thing is foreplay!!!!!!!!

I planted a pomegranate 2 years ago, fertilized and trimmed it - growing well, but no flowers or fruit - help!

Are some simply non-bearing?

I planted a pomegranate 2 years ago, fertilized and trimmed it - growing well, but no flowers or fruit - help!
It is either a case of too much fertilizer or it may need to be cross pollinated. Some plants are male or female and must have the opposite sex plant to produce fruit.
Reply:Wow, that is a miracle. Some plants are slow to mature. Enjoy the fruits of your labor. Report It

Reply:What is a pomegranate? My mom drinks pomegranate juice and she said it is really bitter.
Reply:some plants need years before they have fruit. Even if you get flowers your pomenganate may need cross-polination to bear fruit.
Reply:Maybe your fertilizing and trimming too much.

I want to write a thank you note to my work colleagues ror sending me flowers and get well wishes?

Make it short and clear that you appreciate what they did and you try to explain what you really felt when you saw the flowers. Your simple words will be better than any formal or known words that can be used in these cases. Also it depends on the occasion or reason they were sending to you.

For example I may say simply %26quot; Many thanks for the great feeling you gave me when I saw the flowers%26quot; if you need more examples send me.

I want to write a thank you note to my work colleagues ror sending me flowers and get well wishes?
Dear....................

I was really surpised to receive all those lovely flowers and your best wishes for my speedy recovery and I would like to tell you how much I appreciate your kind gesture. Every time I look at the flowers and card I remember you all. Its really great having friends like all of you. Hope to see you all soon.....Kind regards.......
Reply:I was taken seriously ill about 7 years ago. I was in Intensive Care (Thank-you University College Hospital in London!).

I was off work for almost 3 months!

My work colleagues had a whip round and collected an amazing £1900. Not bad as the average take-home was only about £180!

I didn%26#039;t know how to say thanks to them all so I bought a fairly large card and pinned it on the wall where everyone could see it.

Inside I used red marker to write.

What can I say - Thank you !

I spoke to some of the guys and they said that actually brought a lump to their throats reading it! The simple ways are often the most effective.

White would really pop against the pink dresses, especially with some greenery:

With Orchids:

Reply:I%26#039;d probably go with stargazer lillies - they are both pink and white and can look very formal when paired with the right greenery.
Reply:Lillies, tulips, and roses....all of these come in various shades of pinks..and white to lighten the bouquets up some! They%26#039;ll be gorgeous!
Reply:Try some tropical flowers and remember that orange tropical toned flowers also work well with raspberry/fushcia. I am sorry to admit that I don%26#039;t know the names of the flowers. If I were you, I%26#039;d stop by your local florists and see what they have in their wedding books to see if there%26#039;s anything that works for you.
Reply:i think roses are substantial to every bride%26#039;s bouquet, for good reason - they%26#039;re beautiful, affordable, and come in many different colors. i think light pink roses would look nice with rasberry/fuschia, darker or brighter pinks would look nice too. and of course white always works.

carnations are beautiful too: http://www.beyondblossoms.com/images/Pin...

http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/P/B0...

if you get white carnations (or most any other flower) you can stick it in some water that has food coloring in it and it will turn that color - which is nice if you want to match colors. but carnations already come in amny colors.

i think a mix of roses and gerberas look nice together: http://www.blumen.com/images/pink%20bouq...

you can see if it%26#039;s possible to get some actual rasberrys or the raspberry flowers put in your bouquet.

GodBless and have fun palnning!
Reply:hi im ellie is a good idea....
Reply:Because you love greenery, you might consider some tropical plants that are purplish pink on the underside of the leaves.

Orchids sound great.
Reply:well if the bridesmaids dresses are that colorful and you want a fancy flower maybe calla lillies would be a good choice, or tulips.

if you want something more fun go with daisies

talk to your florist and bring a color swatch of the dresses. they will probably show you some nice combinations with flowers
Reply:I think that yellow and either one of these colors works well. It sets the raspberry or fushia off.
Reply:get a piece of raspberry/fuchsia fabric and go to a florist who can help you pick out the right color flowers next march.
Reply:definatly tropical, oranges and greens and yellows
Reply:Bright peonies, stargazers and greenery are the first things that come to mind. Sounds beautiful. Enjoy
Reply:I LOVE the bright colors that Gerbera daisies come in. I know you want a formal wedding, but gerberas offer a playfulness about them. There is something so happy about them! I also love the moulin rouge and strawberry blond sunflowers. They are so pretty!

Scroll down on this link to find the moulin rouge and strawberry blond sunflowers.

I know they aren%26#039;t too formal, but, you might have to find roses in the colors you want if you want to stay formal.

Good luck and congratulations!!

Do you use the stems and leaves as well as the flowers when making Chamomile tea?

Is the whole plant not good to use and why?

Do you use the stems and leaves as well as the flowers when making Chamomile tea?
I%26#039;d stick with the flowers (which are not rare, after all) because they%26#039;re the most flavorful part of a plant, and chamomile is a fairly modest flavor without making it thinner with plant stems. But I dont%26#039; think the rest of the plant will hurt you; I%26#039;ve had a couple pieces of stem in my chamomile from the bulk jar at the food coop, and it was no problem.
Reply:no...you just use teh flower part...you may use the whole flower but i, personaly like just teh FLOWERS

SNEHA very well knows that if a husband brings flowers for no reason, there's a reason. So she hates marriage.

A marriage has many other sides to it apart from a husband bringing flowers for his wife without any apparent reason. Flowers can say a lot of things silently, including, %26quot;I love you%26quot;. If love is the sole reason for bringing flowers, must Sneha really hate marriage?

* She hates husband or marriage! No husband will buy flowers for no reason. It is a way of showing his love.

Hi I have a Peace Lilly that I really love. It is doing well except for the flowers seem to turn brown and die

Can you please help me with the issue of my Peace Lilly flower not the leaves turning brown and dieing. I Really Love my plant and desire to take care of it properly,Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi I have a Peace Lilly that I really love. It is doing well except for the flowers seem to turn brown and die
The flowers only last a month or so, two at the outside. If it happened quicker than that, it%26#039;s either a watering or feeding problem. Peace Lilies are water lovers and like heavy feeding. If they dry out, they don%26#039;t flower well.
Reply:My mom and I both have one too. Her%26#039;s does the same as yours. She tells me that it is %26quot;reseeding%26quot;. Mine however has turned from white to green and has been this way for 2 months. It hasn%26#039;t turned brown. I have mine in potting soil and infront of a window that gets partial sun. I only water it when the dirt is just starting to dry. :)
Reply:I have several peace lilies, and this is normal. As soon as they start to turn you should cut it off at the base. Any part of a plant that starts to turn brown should always be cut--this lets the nutrients be used by the rest of the plant and not wasted on dead/dying foilage.
Reply:Flowers do that! I don%26#039;t know of a flower in the world that does not die after it has bloomed. Don%26#039;t worry, you%26#039;ll get more.
Reply:No flower lasts forever. But luckily, a happy peace lilly should bloom a few times a year.

What plants grow well under pine trees? I prefer flowers. Zone 5?

Many plants will not do well under pine trees because of the acidic soil. Two perennials that I recommend are azaleas and rhododendrons - they both flower in the Spring. Hydrangeas also like acidic soil - that is also a perennial that flowers later in the season, July - August. I am zone 5 also, and all do pretty well in my yard - they need protection in the winter - the pine trees should provide that.

What plants grow well under pine trees? I prefer flowers. Zone 5?
You can plant azaleas and rhododendrons.. both love acidic soils..

For annuals, try impatiens and begonias.. keep an eye on your soil pH and fertilize as needed..

Do mulch, though.. the trees will love it and the landscape looks a lot nicer..
Reply:Not many plants grow under pine trees. Pine needles are acidic and burn and kill every living thing around it. Just lay out some mulch.

i%26#039;ve browsed quite a bit ..... there r few suggestions of yellow but not sure

Yellow I guess but I would prefer Pink - I guess go with whatever the person would like if they werent sick.?

Best site to order get well flowers on line ??

I personally think 1800flowers.com has a better selection than the other main floral site, ftd.com. (Both have good track records, but service depends on the local florist they contract with.)

1800flowers.com has some really cute arrangements, like the cocktail bouquets--not your typical %26quot;get well soon,%26quot; but really fun: http://ww12.1800flowers.com/dataset.do?d...

They also have a lot of really nice Get Well bouquets.

Reply:Check out proflowers.com. I have received flowers from them in the past and they have lasted much longer than those ordered from ftd or 800flowers. When you order from proflowers they are shipped directly from the grower and not a third party.

What are the get well flowers?

Hmm.. Any kind of flower is beautiful.. but if you want someone to %26quot;GET WELL%26quot;.. you might want something BIG.. and Colorful.. Something that catches their eyes. Roses are more romantic.. then Get Well. I would say Daisies.. Lillies.. things like that.. in Different colors.

What are the get well flowers?
Roses.

The effect is to %26quot;get laid%26quot; afterwards...

Do you send get well flowers after an attempted suicide?

Well, I suppose it depends on how close you are to the person. Maybe don%26#039;t call them Get Well Flowers but more of I am thinking of You and Here for You if You need Me Flowers. And send an encouraging note saying that you are there for them.

Do you send get well flowers after an attempted suicide?
Why not??????
Reply:Wow, you are really, really naughty.
Reply:No - you take them out in nature to pick flowers...

Sending flowers seems impersonal - I%26#039;d feel like you just checked something else off of your to-do list.
Reply:Yes because the person is sick and suffering. Anyone who attemps suicide has some mental illness.
Reply:Maybe a card that lets them know you were thinking of them and a nice home cooked meal (or store bought if you dont want to cook it). Dont send them get well flowers because they arent sick- they were just going through something they didnt really know how to handle.

Maybe a nice book to read, or get them something you know they really enjoyed.
Reply:a %26quot;get well%26quot; message might not cut it...but don%26#039;t let that stop you from reaching out to the person. A friendship bouquet...a handwritten note reminding them that they are not alone...perhaps a small momento (such as a flat stone) that can be carried around in one%26#039;s pocket to remind that person on a daily basis that they are never truly alone or out of their loved ones%26#039; thoughts for long....those might be more appropriate.
Reply:*L* I wouldn%26#039;t.

Maybe a card that says %26#039;maybe next time%26#039;...Just kidding!
Reply:Don%26#039;t say get well, maybe I%26#039;m thinking of you
Reply:Yes. Flowers are an excellent thing to send. They send a message that there was nothing to be ashamed of and remind that there is a %26quot;get well%26quot; in the situation. I think it%26#039;s a lovely idea.
Reply:Sure, after all if he/she attemted to comit suicide its becasuse something wasnt well. But I would send a funny card also - helps releive tensions?
Reply:Do you know the person well? If so, maybe flowers would be o.k. Otherwise, I would say send a card with a nice personal note inside. You can always send something later as the person recovers and begins to feel better physically and emotionally.
Reply:should not be get well flowers but flowers of love and friendship sort of a pick me up bouquet with a note of love and care were their for you and are here anytime for you type thing only if you really mean it though........ being that you didn%26#039;t see it coming do you really care enough to send them ....they should be ta-kin in person if you really can it would really mean allot more ..send them if you cant take them but try to take them
Reply:No send them a heavy regiment of anti depressants and something to sedate them. Make them happy and send them to La La Land.

But on the flowers I don%26#039;t know. You could send them flowers. Not necessarily get well flowers. At least they would know you where thinking of them. Or you could just go see the person if you care about them. I dunno, just my two cents. Good luck.
Reply:yes because they needed it if they tried to kill themselves id tell them to take the flowers and get therapy
Reply:Yes....it is a sign of your concern for the person and they could probably use the encouragement of knowing someone cares
Reply:I wouldn%26#039;t, it%26#039;s not the same as being sick and recovering from an illness. A phone call or a card that says that you were thinking of the person and you%26#039;re there to support them or to help them if you can would be much more appropriate.
Reply:I would rather send %26quot;Thinking of You%26quot; flowers instead of %26quot;Get Well%26quot;
Reply:No, they are not in the mood to appreciate flowers.
Reply:I wouldn%26#039;t send flowers of any sort. I would send a Thinking of You card just to let the person know you are there if they need you.
Reply:yes, just to show them that someone cares..
Reply:ya.in significance of the person%26#039;s future is full of colors and fragrance.so he can forget the tough of suicide attempt and to fight with life
Reply:no cause its a waste of money
Reply:it%26#039;s better if you go (bring flowers with you, if ever) for a personal visit, and don%26#039;t act too serious nor concerned. just make it a happy visit. don%26#039;t talk about the event (that can come up much later, after the patient has undergone some professional therapy). flowers without you in a suicide attempt case isn%26#039;t enough. the patient may interpret it in many awkward ways. if you can%26#039;t go, better not send, but plan for a visit some time later if you really care.

i hope this helps. best wishes.
Reply:If this person is recovering from the attempt, then a sign of concern and hope is certainly appropriate.

Send the flowers along with a card and instead of the typical %26#039;get well%26#039; card, select one that let%26#039;s them know that you are concerned for their well being and that you are hoping for them to improve to a better life.

Remember, suicide is generally done for two major reasons, a lack of hope or a severe feeling of loneliness. Giving them hope and expressing your concern address both of these issues.

Good luck!
Reply:Um no, send a Pastor.
Reply:Suicide is normally a cry for help, or the result of some serious depression. So if the person is a friend of yours it would be ok to send some flowers and tell them you are thinking about them. You have them in your prayers, your grateful they are ok, and hope they can get to feeling better soon. All people desire to be loved, cared about. Good Luck and God Bless
Reply:Um..... yeah were they ever ill? As in physically? Try giving them a word of advice/support ya know... not flowers!
Reply:Ummm, I wouldn%26#039;t. Maybe a flower display for the funeral and a Condolence card.
Reply:I would send some sharper knives along with a card that says better luck next time.

I was trying to grow flowers at first they were doing well but then at the roots i saw fuzzy white stuff?
Its mold. to much standing water. you also need a pot that drains better.
Reply:Its a fungus...%26quot;damping off%26quot;...you are keeping the soil too wet. Don%26#039;t over water the plants.
Reply:They may have disease. You need to re-pot them immediately. You know I bet you have the old soil that they were in when you purchased them, if thats the case you really need to save them, lol. I love the scotts and miracle grow products. Also make sure that you have them with the preferred lighting. Good luck!!

What are some plants or flowers that grow well inside?
As long as you can put plants by a lit window, any of the plants that are sold in the houseplant section of stores grow well indoors. Of my plants I have a spider plant that likes its location, I have had it for 10 years. I have thinned out the new plants on it several times.

Impatients are a nice annual flower for shade. They now come in many different sizes and colors so look around if you decide on these. I also have a wonderful bleeding heart that has done great with moderate shade.

Search in a search engine to see if any of your local flower shops have online sites. If so, they may be cheaper than the big name flower shops.
